How does this work?

Here are the main steps with Ahead:

1) Complete our short online questionnaire to see if we can support your specific needs.

2) If we can support your specific needs, you will be able to schedule a judgement-free, full length evaluation with a provider. The evaluation will be conducted via a secure online video visit.

3) During the first online visit, your provider will get to know your full story and work with you to determine which treatment, if any, is appropriate.

4) If you are prescribed medication and choose medication delivery, it is usually delivered to your home within 2-3 business days.

5) Typically, you will see your provider for short online visits once a month at the start to work on tailoring your treatment plan to your specific needs. Once your treatment plan is optimized, your provider will review the options with you and may change the visit frequency accordingly.

6) If a prescription renewal is due while you are between provider visits, simply send your request through your Patient Portal. We’ll coordinate with your provider and pharmacy to get the prescription ready for you. Consistent with best practice in care, your provider might request another visit prior to renewing a prescription if needed.

Does Ahead take my insurance?

Ahead is an out-of-network provider with insurance companies for visits. An Out-of-network claim means that your health insurance company can reimburse you for money spent on healthcare from a provider not normally covered in your insurance’s network. Ahead provides you with a superbill to submit to your insurance.

If you choose to have your medication delivered through Ahead, we accept most insurance plans and you would only owe your copay or deductible costs. Prescriptions are billed separately from your visits.

We also accept HSA and FSA payments for visits, membership fees, and medication.

How much do the visits cost?

Ahead offers multiple paths for mental healthcare so that we can care for as many people as possible.

People who are eligible for a primary care provider membership pay $150 for their first month, which includes their initial evaluation. Then they pay $75/month for ongoing care.

People who have their care with an Ahead psychiatric specialist pay $30 to reserve their initial full-length evaluation. This is deducted from the total appointment cost of $225 after completing your visit. Follow-up appointments are then billed per visit:

- For medication management, follow-up appointments are 25 minutes and cost $160 per appointment.

- For medication management and therapy, follow-up appointments are 45-50 minutes and cost $275 per appointment.

Most patients have medication management sessions once a month after their initial evaluation. The frequency of follow-up sessions can be adjusted at your provider's discretion.

How much does the medication cost?

With insurance, your medication co-pay will be the same as it is at any other pharmacy and is dependent on your insurance plan and benefits.

Are the visits online or in person?

All visits with your provider are done via a secure online video visit. In some states, we also have clinics that we will work on safely re-opening post COVID-19.

Please note, after the Public Health Emergency due to COVID-19 ends patients who have only done telehealth appointments may be required to do at least one in person visit with their provider to continue care with Ahead. These requirements may vary by state. We will be as flexible as possible with the appointment scheduling.

Do I need a prior diagnosis or prescription?

No! We can take any patient regardless of whether you have seen a psychiatrist in the past or not.
